Chanakya’s Question!
In later years, Chanakya too emphasised on the importance of questioning the ruler to maintain the sovereignty of the kingdom and keep the ruler on check from getting arrogant or autocratic. He considered it an important attribute for smooth functioning of state. Then, how and why have we stopped encouraging questions? Children are being asked to be quiet, voices of dissent are being suppressed, The irony of today is that the basic tenet of culture, the most fundamental right has only become the subject of question ?
Isn’t that a disservice to individual, society, nation and world ?That’s the essence of Indian culture. Even
Vedas mention that right to question is the fundamental right ..One must question with a reasoning behind it. The early historical references clearly mention the system of organising assemblies wherein the scholars used to question each other on their belief system and theories propounded. Best aspect being no scholar took it against the other.
Rather, they used to answer queries and dispel the misconceptions without taking it against the person asking questions, There was nothing personal about it. It was all in good faith, No defence . No offence! The word # Why ” is the reason behind every new invention, discovery and development. The Why leads to How, What, Where, When – These questions are the differentiating factor between animals and humans as they force to think, go through gamut of emotion while planning and strategising things. The force behind
gradual evolution of man. Should we then not encourage every individual to question, weigh the answer and then reach to a decision? So, let’s come up with our own set of queries and help build a thinking nation.
